Heavy Rotation - The Rise of Filipino Hip Hop and R&B is a bi-monthly 1-hour podcast show featuring today's and tomorrow's Filipino Hip Hop and R&B artists as well as DJs, event coverage, live music, interviews and discussions about socially related issues that impact Filipinos and their community. Our mission is to provide Filipinos with a media outlet to increase visibility in the music industry and to be recognized through music, not ethnicity. Heavy Rotation is the music, the vision and the voice of Filipinos worldwide.

The History

The concept of Heavy Rotation was envisioned by Marlino Bitanga AKA DJ Marlino "da5footafunk", an 11-year radio veteran. In the Fall of 2006, Marlino passed on an opportunity to return to the radio industry in order to develop a "mini radio station" that he believed would allow him to use all of his skills, provide self-fulfillment, and a create way to give back to the community. The idea was to establish a media outlet for Filipino Hip Hop and R&B music, program it into a radio format and present it in a manner that people were already socially constructed to listening to music: the radio, CDs, mp3 players, and the internet. Marlino believed that through social construction listeners would be able to appreciate the music better, and get to know the artists more effectively, similarly to the way we react to our favorite artists when we hear them on the radio. With a little over a year of brainstorming, researching, team building and planning, Marlino's idea was realized on December 8, 2007, as Heavy Rotation debuted as the first Filipino Hip Hop and R&B radio show on the world wide web.
